Wow. That a really long list! That’s a lot of work just to find these, grab the screenshots, and put the whole post together. You’ve done a great job – it’s a nice list of themes that include most of the major theme shops and a good cross section of all the design types out there now for portfolio-focused themes. There are lot of beautiful designs.

Thought this was a great article and one that has some very inspiring themes in it. I agree with you about keeping in mind responsive sites and in opinion this is something we should always be thinking about. There are a lot of good themes in this collection but I really like the Purity theme. I love the clean feel to the site through the use of colour and space. You can see all the information clearly and has a very professional look. Great article and I look forward to more articles like this from you.

I’ve been asked to create a WordPress portfolio site to showcase an artists collective of about 26 artists. Each will require their own section of the site which they will want exclusive access to in order to update/manage their own section. Basically, 26 sub-sites within one umbrella site. Can anyone recommend a theme for this purpose?
Not sure if you really want the theme to have these features. I would rather look for multi author / role and permissions plugins to make it possible to create pages and categories where individual artists only can update and publish content. I have not tested it myself but this premium plugin may do what you need… and then you will be able to choose the portfolio theme based on the look and feel!
Thanks Lars. Not sure I particularly want to go down this route either but I have to answer the brief as received before I can offer alternatives. PUR does have potential but with the prospect of having to teach 26 mixed-ability artists how to use it, I’ll probably dress it up as a bad idea. Many thanks.
