If you are using WordPress for you website or blog I am sure you want as much control as possible when it comes to displaying posts. As you may have figured out, the built in widgets in WordPress are not worth writing home about. However, there are tons of plugins available and you may also use a theme with some useful widgets or shortcodes included to make some post magic.

I like to find free options and share them with you. Today I want to show you a free plugin called Super Post. This plugin have two overall functionalities. First, it helps you to add Social Media share buttons, ratings, likes and views on you posts. Secondly, and more importantly for this post, it allows you to insert post information using a widget or a shortcode. OK, there are many plugin that offer this kind of functionality, but I think Super Post does a really great job. The plugin lets you use various post queries to display popular, recent, related, sticky, categoty and tab based posts. In addition, you get great control over the design and information included in the listings such as how much excerpt to display and how to format the thumbnail images. Let us take a closer look at this great free post display plugin for WordPress.



Super Post plugin can be installed directly from plugin search or through uploading its .zip folder onto your WordPress site. Upon installation, the plugin appears under Settings tab under Dashboard Panel.

Super Post plugin has its own Settings Page. It has 4 tabs: General, Share, Advanced and Premium tab. The General tab includes Post Settings for displaying post, post likes and ratings. The Premium tab lets you view its Premium version specifications. In most cases the premium features will not be needed, however, there are some useful extras that advanced users will love. Once all settings have been set, the buttons will appear immediately within you posts.  Depending on what you add you may have view counters and Likes and Rating. This is all controlled under general settings.

Displaying posts using Widgets and Shortcodes

Super Post plugin can also be used as a widget. Just go to Appearance tab then Widgets. Drag Super Post widget from there to the desired sidebar area.

Once the widget is in place, you can start editing its settings. Enter a title, Post number and choose post type display.


You can also edit excerpt length and read text.  More settings include Thumbnails, Comments, Date, Author, Templates and Customs.

Besides using the widget you can also insert post information into pages and posts using a shortcode. This is an example of how the shortcode is set up.

This is how the widget or shortcode will look like on the page. Of the two posts shown here, only one of them have a thumbnail attached.

Super Post Widget is a cool plugin to use for displaying additional features such as Social Media Share, Ratings and Views within your post. It has a simple user interface that enables easy input and settings adjustments. It also has an intuitive widget and shortode that lets you display your posts in a flexible way. Visitors of your website will be able to see your popular, recent and related posts within the sidebar areas or whereever you put this using the shortcode. Super Post plugin is a free plugin (with a premium upgrade options). The plugins available options for color styling and layout control are limited.
