Using jQuery countdown plugins is probably the simplest and most performance optimal way to add a dynamic and interactive countdown timer to your website.

I am sure you have noticed the countdown features on e.g. sport sites showing countdown until a big event. You have probably also seen sites that are not online yet or down for maintenance using a jQuery countdown timer to tell visitors when to come back. This is called a under construction timer or landing page. They can also be used to countdown to a release date of a game, a movie or to a party. Countdown or jQuery timer scripts simply have many useful use cases and the good news is that there are some really good scripts you can use on your site.

In this article, you will find most of the useful jQuery countdown scripts available right now. jQuery is also useful in many other areas and in particular jQuery Slider, jQuery carousel and plugins can give a website a face-lift. If I missed some scripts, you like then please leave a comment. I am doing ongoing updates to the article where I add new jQuery countdown timers and check the links and current ratings of the elements I have included.

I really liked the Gieson countdown timer, because its resizable and it displays a month. However, it doesn’t work in IE 7 or IE 8! Anyone know of a similar one with these features?

Tying to use Uji Countdown for a WordPress site. It won’t change dynamically. Have to refresh page. Plus it won’t remove seconds even though I removed them in template? How lovely

Im impressed, I have to admit. Actually rarely will i encounter a blog thats both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you may have hit the nail for the head. Your idea is outstanding the catch is something which too little everyone is speaking intelligently about. We are very happy we stumbled across this within my look for some thing regarding this.

Hello,

I did this myself and posted it on phphunt if it can be useful:

http://www.phphunt.com/137/live-clock-in-jquery

It uses jquery, it’s basically a jquery , and it can take a server timestamp to start with. The css can also be easily modified to one’s own likings.

Thanks for that simple countdown. It’s all I needed and everything I found until this was some way over complicated thing.

Only I had to take out the web page bit and make it just count

$(document).ready(function(){
var count = 10;
countdown = setInterval(function(){
$(‘#countdown’).html(” + count + ”);
if(count != 0){
count–;
}
}, 1000);
});

oops the page took out my header tags around “count”. It’s a simple h1 tag is all
