Bright and strong colors in photography attract attention and the right use of colors even may influence our feelings in certain ways. Colors are therefore used heavily in advertising and sometimes by putting high focus a certain color i.e. using Monochromatic Color Dominance as a technique. Completely removing colors however can also have a very strong impact and it is a technique often used in documentary photography and to give photos a more gloomy atmosphere. Photos in this category are referred to as grey-scale or black and white photography and while originally captured using special films it is not possible to create the effect in modern cameras or in applications like Photoshop.  While Photoshop can remove all colors in a snap it is possible to create different and sometimes better effects e.g. by adjusting the tones and light balance.

A Photoshop action is a series of tasks that you play back on a single file or a batch of files. Actions can make nearly any change to an image and examples could be changing the image size, adding new layers, applying filters, saving files in a specific format etc. With the click of a button an action can help us achieve time consuming effects in no time you just need to have access to the right actions.

Here in this post, I have collected some black and white Photoshop actions to help you create awesome black and white photos in seconds. Please share your thoughts and let us know if we missed some great black and white actions.

B&W is no about desaturating a color image like some would think. It’s about capturing contrast and rythm then making some adjustments like filtering certain colors to increase contrast dramatically while not loosing detail. It is harder than color photographs but is very elegant when done.

Thanks for sharing the photoshop actions and tips for B&W

Fantastic blog you have here but I was wondering if
you knew of any forums that cover the same topics talked about here?
I’d really like to be a part of group where I can get suggestions from other experienced individuals that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Bless you!

As it is shown in the above action, the final touch in B&W is very important, sometimes need to add more contrast or sepia tone or make detail more subtle to achieve what is needed
