Bright and strong colors in photography attract attention and the right use of colors even may influence our feelings in certain ways. Colors are therefore used heavily in advertising and sometimes by putting high focus a certain color i.e. using Monochromatic Color Dominance as a technique. Completely removing colors however can also have a very strong impact and it is a technique often used in documentary photography and to give photos a more gloomy atmosphere. Photos in this category are referred to as grey-scale or black and white photography and while originally captured using special films it is not possible to create the effect in modern cameras or in applications like Photoshop.  While Photoshop can remove all colors in a snap it is possible to create different and sometimes better effects e.g. by adjusting the tones and light balance.
