Top 5 Android Diet and Weight Loss Applications

Most people trying to lose weight, feel great and maintain a healthy lifestyle usually need a little help. And with the myriad of smart phones users out there, it’s no wonder that developers are creating applications designed to optimize the health and fitness plans of these people. Since there are so many to choose from, we’ve put together a list of five hot picks that are sure to provide you lasting benefit and satisfying use, even long after you’ve reached your fitness goals.

1. Diet Tips

This application is the perfect go-to for a list of quick, simple and relevant diet tips that can help you get motivated and stay on track. Just when you feel a plateau coming on or if you need a boost, the Diet Tips application for Android comes in handy and offers a collection of the latest news and views on all things related to nutrition and fitness. Like a daily flip top calendar, it provides a useful but simple cache of tips, skipping the long and drawn out articles about the topic. At no cost to the user and not too heavy on memory usage, this app is a handy tool to keep at your fingertips.

2. CardioTrainer

In a nutshell, this ingenious tool was developed for you to be able to log and keep track of all your fitness activity in one, all-encompassing, platform. With features designed to make your fitness and health goals simple and easy to keep track of this is rated among the best apps available on the market today. Features include voice notifications of workout statistics, music integration, GPS tracking to allow you to plot your routine on a map and a recordable log of workouts.

3. DroidFit

The beauty of this Android app is that it was developed by serious fitness buffs, not just someone looking to cash in some big bucks with yet another health app. The main aspects of DroidFit that make it so widely popular are its graphic charts to track weight lifting and body stats progress, a formula designed to calculate the body builder’s 1 Rep Maximum and an extensive library of programmable workout plans with several hundred weight training exercises.

4. Hungry!

If you are on a diet then chances are you are watching on what you eat. Trips to the supermarket can be a difficult task when you’re trying to stay disciplined without straying from your diet plan. Hungry! is an excellent way to stay within the limits of your calorie budget by helping you to stick to your shopping list. Too often when dieters go to the supermarket even slightly hungry, they tend to go overboard and buy too much – and usually of the wrong foods. Not only will this app help you get through your diet, it will also provide lasting use after the fact by helping you manage your grocery lists.

5. Ambiance

Labeled an “environment enhancer”, the music that is featured in this Android application is specially designed to literally block out the noise of everyday life and allow you to step back, relax and focus. Ideal for those people who are following a regimented diet and fitness program, Ambiance provides a much-needed break from it all and give you a chance to meditate to customized, downloadable playlists. Operating like most typical portable mp3 players of these days, this application is the perfect way to transform your Android into a great source of chill music.

While on a focused diet and fitness program, you can reap many benefits from the tools available for download on your Android. Whether you get great tidbits about the latest trends and fads in diets, utilize technological advances to help develop and track your fitness routines or take a moment from it all to unwind – these apps will greatly improve the quality of your life and help you to sustain long-lasting success!

A good diet is really important. Its up there with exercise on the most important things I do. It seems to me that people struggle with the will power aspect when trying to become healthy. I am sure these apps help people monitor what they are taking in so that they may be healthier in the future. Good job!

A friend of mine wants to make an Android app and has asked me to code it for him. Does anyone know of a program that will let me create an app without any knowledge of coding?

Hi Joseph,

indeed, it all comes down to eating habits and overall lifestyle. But these apps can help.

Joseph Dabon October 31, 2012 at 2:25 am

No doubt, they will. But they must first “will” themselves to do it.

I sometimes go with my daughter to her gym to work out and it amazes me to see so many middle-aged women trying their darn best to lose those extra pounds. But am pretty sure they are missing the bigger picture – their eating habits.

Joseph Dabon December 10, 2010 at 2:52 am

God, what would they think of next to lose weight? Why would people be so hard pressed to lose extra weight when they never thought of their bad eating habits that caused all their misery?

Losing weight isnt as important as losing fat from your body and most people in ahurry to lose weight end up dehydrated rather than losing fat and becoming lean. Learn how to lose fat with online fat loss program with custom made plans and personal counselling by registered dietitian.
