Designers and developers tend to be able to solve most of their work related tasks from the computer and this habit is moving into the private life as well. Sitting 10-12 hours sucking up screen radiation is kind of normal, but believe me it is not healthy! If you are a dedicated Screen Workers you probably get too little exercise and sometimes fell stressed or worn out. We all know it and we heard it over and over again – the condition can pose a serious threat to our health if we don’t change our habits. In fact it is known to increase the risk significantly to suffer some really serious health complications like fx. heart disease, cancer, diabetes, anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder or suicide. Still it is so hard for us to get up from the chair and away from the screen enough. Since we keep providing you articles, advice and tips to solve your job related tasks and indirectly urge you to stay in front of the screen we decided it is time to give a few tips on staying healthy. Screen addicts now it is time to make a change!
1. Take a time out
Give your self a break. Try doing something else or just simply lie down in a sofa and think of nothing or just relax and take some slow, deep breaths. Some soothing music or campfire sound may be helpful.
Most people simply get carried away when working concentrated on a task in front of the computer. One way to break this evil circle is to rely on software to alarm you when a certain amount of time has passed. Once you have one of your breaks make sure you spend time following the three next tips.
2. Laugh as much as possible
As the old sayings goes, “laughter is the best medicine”. It will lower your tension, and it will improve your blood flow. Keeping you heart healthy is easy it starts with a smile. Hang out with your favorite comedian friend, or watch funny clips in the you tube and you will forget about your worries. Like this funny cat photo, or some humor that of your interest. While it will not get away from the computer as you should in your break it can be seriously fun the give images a silly makeover.
3. Exercise, be active
Research would say that exercise will reduce stress. It is the blood circulation that keeps a man alive. Physical activity releases the pressure. It lightens anxiety and tension. It will also improve your overall health. Just do some walking, stretching, jumping for a minute or so just enough that you will feel a burning sensation. Or find yourself an power formula online as so many others.
If you are too busy to get away from the screen then at least start working out while sitting at your computer. Or take 5 minutes less time for launch and go for a walk with a colleague around the office or what ever possibilities you may have.
4. Be social and communicate
Socialize, talk to someone, family, friends, neighbors, have a little chit’chat it would do the trick. Even though it distracts your work in front of the screen it is so important! Some people have dogs as part of their day to day socialization method such as play dates as advance socialization. While it is possible these days to be social without leaving the computer you should not rely on twitter only. Get out and meet people face to face! If you have come to the stage where it is actually hard or impossible for you to approach people you don’t not it may be time to get some help.
5. Eat a healthy diet and loose weight
Some times screen workers forget about eating, in the sense that, they are preoccupied of almost every thing except eating. If you cant leave the screen better bring a heavy sandwich on your side, right? To fight the growing weight some people jump from diet to diet and it is hard to know what works and what does not. In fact some argue that most diets simply make the situation worse over time even though there may be a temporary improvement. Recently if has become very popular to use online information products with diet recipes and fat loosing tips. Another option for eating healthy food is trying out the Mediterranean diet. It is rich in heart-healthy fiber and nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. The diet generally includes: fruits, vegetables and unsaturated “good” fats, particularly olive oil.
6. Aroma and Magnetic Therapy
The sense of smelling can help you feel alive and relaxed. Putting the right scents into the air that will help cools down your nerves, but you need to know the basics. For example you could try a lavender scent. Some people claim that it has a relaxing effect. You may also simply get some fresh air – oldest trick ever and it works!
Most people laugh when told that magnetic therapy should have a lot of positive effects on humans. Still there is a huge market for the and who know if it really is possible to treat the shoulder and back pain with magnets?
7. Be happy for you’re self
Think on positive things and simply be positive. It is possible in nearly and situation and it will help you through a though day easier. Even at work it is possible to be happy and yes it is good for you!
8. Sleep well and enough
Have a deep sleep every night, it is more important than most people think. However most people tend to ignore “I’m tired” signals when they are busy in front of the computer. You have to start following a regular pattern and get to bed early enough to get enough sleep. If you cant sleep when you get to bed just remember to close you’re eyes while your counting the sheep’s… I know it is the classic sleep solution we all learned as kids, but for most people it works for lowering the brain activity. Of course there are also many other ways to fall a sleep faster. When you’re in the bed, try to think about your position be cause sleeping positions gives personality clue.
