I know there are plenty of articles about themes for WordPress and at tripwire magazine we have also published our share. The reason is simple – WordPress is awesome and it just gets better and better. Further there are new themes released and new designers and vendors entering the market every day.
This is good for everyone using WordPress, but it has almost come to a point where the massive supply makes it hard to make a decision and filter the good themes from the bad ones. One option to get around this problem is to take a look at premium theme vendors as they typically have fewer, but very high quality themes that can be customized easily. In contrast you can go to the large theme directories and search for a theme that fits your requirements for look and feel. While this may be more time consuming it will not cost you a single dollar. As you can understand it is important to start searching using the sites that have good search capabilities, good previews and detailed descriptions of theme features. This article does not list a single WordPress theme, but it gives you an overview of some of the best premium theme vendors and free theme directories currently available.

Elegant Themes
Elegant themes is a pure club theme vendor, but the enty price is really low compared to the huge amount of high quality themes you get access to. You find around 50 themes and covering nearly any need you may have.
Themeforest
Themeforest currently have 1150+themes for wordpress websites. They are generally very high quality and price starts at as low as $3. Most good themes on the other hand is prized at $25-40. You can see how many times a theme have been sold. This is an indicator of popularity, quality etc. but can also be used to tell you if too many sites is already using a particular theme.
WPZoom
This is one of my favorite premium theme vendors. The reason is mainly their superb WordPress magazine themes and innovative ideas.
Organic Themes
Organic Themes really creates modern and eye catching designs. They currently provide 10 themes only, but they are all top quality.
templatic
Templatic offers more than 50 great themes for WordPress – including WordPress E-Commerce Themes.
Woothemes
Woothemes offer 75+ of the highest quality themes you can get for WordPress. I have used their themes myself and I like their options page system and how easy it is customizing them.
Graph Paper Press

Themes-WP is a good place to look for WordPress themes. You can browse the currently 2600+ themes based on the color, number of columns and many other properties in this site. Screenshots in the lists are a bit small but there are preview and download links.
Themes Rock Kitty
This site has a large collection of around 1500+ free wordpress themes.There are several features to help you browse the themes, categories, tags, rating, most popular etc. All themes have preview and download.
Blog 0H Blog
This site have created some of the best WordPress themes and you can read in detailed about each of them. The site have around 60+ themes available for download.
Themes Preview
This site have a large and interesting collection of WP themes, currently 600+ themes. Themes Preview take the time to review the themes and rate them based on standard compliance, support and certain theme qualities. This is a great idea and will help you filter the themes out that may look good but isn’t good quality behind the nice façade. You can search for the themes using the search function that is present in the right sidebar. This web site do not feature theme switcher but features demo and download link for every theme.

Good site to look for free themes. Currently 110+ themes available for download with good screenshot size. There are preview for all themes available with really good demo content.
WordPress Themes
This site has a rather huge collection of free themes listed with medium size screenshots. Basic calculations tells there may be 1300+ WordPress available for download. Every theme in this site is accompanied by a large screenshot, preview and download link. There’s a randomize feature that will give you a random selection of theme… try it and see what is
Themesbase
Themebase hosts themes for many platforms like Joomla, Mambo, WordPress, etc. Clicking the WordPress link (left menu) will show you the available themes for WordPress listed with rather small screenshots (almost too small). In this site you can see free and premium themes and every theme has got download and preview links. Browsing the themes is a bit hard and I had to change the querystring parameter to find out how many themes the site provide access to (?category=WordPress&page=249). Currently there are 4000+ (not sure if they are all unique..didn’t have time to check it….lol). In my opinion too many as it will be hard to filter out the good ones from the bad ones.
FreeWPthemes.net
The site hosts currently 240+ WordPress themes with preview and download link for every theme. Click on the preview link to see its preview in a new window and you can download the Zip file directly in the preview window.
Natty WP
This site have nearly 670+ free themes for WordPress in it’s collection. You can browse through the collection by categories and preview the theme before you download by clicking on the Test button. You can also view the stats of the theme and its properties to get a clear idea about the theme. Site is well organized in categories and have theme details and good screenshots.

All the themes in this site are grouped in categories such that you can select a theme easily. It also features Theme Switcher in the side bar such that you can preview a theme quickly. And every theme is accompanied by preview and download link such that you can download the theme easily.
WP4themes
This site have a collection of nearly 400+ free WordPress themes and all the themes are arranged in categories and property wise. Lists have screenshot in good size making it easy to browse. Every theme belongs to categories making it easier to find what you’re looking for.
WP Templates
According the text just below the logo this aite has a huge collection of WordPress themes 4000+. The themes are archived and categorized. All the themes come with a download and demo link for easy use and there are detailed features for most themes as well. There are no index in the paging of pages making it a bit hard to browse fast forward or to a specific page.
Top WP Themes
This site have listed around 350+ good quality WordPress theme and have included theme details (quick info) and preview feature for every theme. Good large screenshots for easy browsing, but no indexing on pages (only next and prev…). Site allow users to rate the themes why you can see other peoples opinion.
WordPress Themes Archive
This site provides a collection of free and excellent WP themes counting 2200+ themes. All the themes are categorized for better search and for the ease of the users they have included preview feature for each of the theme. Preview the theme and download it right from one place. Rather large collection of themes counting nearly 3000+ themes. The site have included preview and download links for each of the theme. You can also rate the theme accordingly in this site. The theme search will help you narrow down your search to find the theme you are looking for.

This site lists about 900+ WordPress themes arranged in various categories and into lists of most viewed and top rated. This makes it easy to find a good theme matching your needs. There’s also a simple theme search function you can try out.
Skin Press
This site provide themes for several popular CMS platforms, including around 150+ WordPress themes. Screenshots are huge and almost as good as a preview.
Best WordPress themes
This site provides a great collection of around 160+ WordPress themes. You can preview and download the themes from this site directly but you will not find any details and descriptions.
WordPress Hacks
One another site where you can find free WordPress themes and also look at the preview of the themes directly. Link goes to a post with around 150+ themes structured into sections for 2, 3 and 4 column. You can download them directly and there are large images.
WP Themes Press
This site offers a collection of about 80+ free WordPress themes. You can look at the demo of the theme directly and download it from one place. Check out the top rated themes and also browse through the themes in various categories to find the best for your site.
Site Ground
Site Ground is really a web hosting company offering free themes for WordPress and other popular CMS platforms. You can browse through the around 90+ themes that are ordered into categories related to WordPress versions (not sure how useful that is unless Site Ground have tested and know that fx. their WP2.5 themes will not work on newer versions.
