With the release of wordpress 3.0, the platform has evolved in to an even better user friendly content management system. So if you still think of WordPress as only a blogging solution, think again. There are too many improvements with the latest release to mention all of them in article, but I will focus on the new exciting custom menu feature and themes that already support it. Anyone who has ever hacked his or her header.php or footer.php file to set up a special menu will appreciate this, as it allows them to determine what pages will go in any menu, using a simple interface.

Custom menu management in WordPress?
From version 3.0 you can easily manage your menu directly within the WordPress admin. Pages, categories and external links can be added to the menu and organized with ease in a drag and drop fashion. You will also be able to drag and drop items into the desired order/hierarchy, create multiple menus (if supported by the theme) and even link to specific posts as needed.
If you want to add another menu en the sidebar WordPress also comes with a menu widget you can easily use.
WordPress menu feature support in themes
There are different ways that themes can support the menu system. In fx. Thesis Theme (one of the best and most popular themes ever) you simply go to the Site options page and choose to use it.
Other menu options
In themes from woothemes.com (one of my favorite theme developers) you will find the Custom Woo Navigation that really was special when released – it is not the WordPress menu system, but I wanted to point your focus on it as it is really useful too. I believe woothemes is working on integrating their solution with the new solution on WordPess but I’m not sure how far this work is. If anyone know please share it in a comment.
