If you are serious about blogging, you are probably also serious about traffic. Blogs are typically updated often and it is important to let as many as possible know when a new post has been published. Most important is the search engine spiders as you want organic traffic from search engines. Where are ways to submit your web pages manually but when you are using WordPress it is not the most efficient way.
WordPress can automatically notify popular ping services letting them know that you’ve updated your blog by sending a XML-RPC ping each time you create or update a post. Ping services allow different blog and RSS listing services to be notified and the idea is to help get the word out and hopefully drive some traffic to your site. This tutorial will show you how to get your automatic notification out to more services faster.
How can I enable WordPress XML-RPC Ping?
It’s enabled by default, but a default WordPress installation just pings a single site which is pingomatic.com. lets see how we can ping a lot more sites at once.
Copy the following links all at once (or grab them here – plain text file for easy copy / paste.) :

You can download the list here as a plain text file for easy copy / paste.
Next you need to navigate to Settings –> Writing. Towards the bottom, you will see a textarea where you can enter ping services and only one is listed – http://rpc.pingomatic.com/. Paste in the list here.

Now, ‘Save Changes’ and post on your blog without worrying if and when your blog will be indexed by search engines. My blog posts get indexed within a minute or two after I hit ‘Publish’ button.

Is is possible to be penalized from over pinging?
good, very good article
witch is better ? the article list or Wallace’s list ?
I tried this list. Updated my ping services and published an article. Google didn’t index it. The next day I replaced the list with just pingomatic. Amended the article and hit Update. Within seconds Google indexed it.
I don’t have an explanation for this, but would be great to hear other people’s experience of playing around with the WP ping list.
My cousin recommended this blog and she was totally right keep up the fantastic work!
Matt has a valid point, is there any penalty for over pinging. Any gurus on this ?
Good post, it thought me alot, thank you!
Does this work when you update a post as well or only when you publish a new one?
As far as I know an update is also pinged.
